About Metro Screen

METRO SCREEN is a dynamic video, television + multimedia resource centre offering production support + training to emerging film makers, new media makers + community based screen practitioners + artists.

Metro has extensive links within the film, television + multimedia industries. This unique combination of production support + networks gives Metro members + students access to a vibrant community that includes professional organisations, practising filmmakers + artists. These services provide different entry points + multiple pathways into the screen production industries.

Metro is centrally located in the Sydney Film Centre in Paddington Town Hall, serviced by public transport + close to restaurants, cinemas, cafes + galleries.

Metro Screen TRAINING

Metro Screen is a Registered Training Organisation running courses + seminars covering all aspects of video, television, + digital media production.

Metro offers fulltime accredited courses in Television + Video Production, Digital Video Production + Digital Arts and Media. Short courses include editing, scriptwriting, web page design, camera techniques, special effects + directing. We also conduct workshops in streaming for the web + DVD production.

Intensive courses include editing, scriptwriting, video production, web page design, digital imaging, production management + directing.
 
Metro Screen EQUIPMENT + FACILITIES HIRE

We have the latest equipment available for [hire] for video, digital media + interactive projects.
Post-production facilities consist of four non-linear Media 100 / Final Cut Pro editing suites + one linear SP suite with 24 hour access.

Our bluescreen studio can be hired for multicam use + for casting and productions.

A full dubbing and transfer service supporting mini DV, DVC PRO, DVC CAM, Betacam SP, SVHS band low band U matic.

 
Metro Screen PRODUCTION SUBSIDIES

Metro’s [Jump Start Scheme] is designed to assist filmmakers with their productions by providing low cost access to facilities + equipment hire. Subsidies are available for video, digital media or multimedia projects.

On-site appointments with industry professionals are free consultations with script editors, film producers and multimedia producers + are scheduled monthly.

The [Members’ Production Group] is a group of enthusiastic members who meet monthly to pitch new ideas, discuss work in-progress, share skills + resources + produce their own projects on a shoe string budget.

You must be a current Metro Screen member to be eligible for any of the above incentives.

 
Metro Screen YOUTH ACCESS - CHANNEL FREE
Channel Free is Metro's youth media access project.
A leader in youth video training + production, Channel Free provides technology access + training to young people in the Sydney inner-city area.
[Channel Free] workshops facilitate the convergence of youth, community, multimedia + screen practice to produce an empowered youth voice. Highly subsidised workshops are available to young people between the ages of 11-16 in the Sydney area, with FREE video workshops available at youth centres in the South Sydney local government area.

Channel Free also conduct special youth sub-culture projects with the wider youth age bracked [up to 30 years].

Channel Free was established through Metro Screen + the Department of Family + Community Services in 1991.
 
Metro Screen COMMUNITY + CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT
Through specific project funding Metro is able to offer courses + programs to community groups such as:

Lester Bostock Scheme Metro Screen with assistance from the NSW FTO, offers subsidised places for indigenous people with or without prior filmmaking experience to make their own short film. The success of this scheme has resulted in the creation of a:

Multicultural Mentor Scheme offering similar opportunities to people from non English speaking backgrounds so they can also develop their skills + experience i n video production + enter employment within the industry.

Raw Nerve is a national initiative by the AFC + Screen Development Australia, with Metro Screen coordinating the NSW component of the scheme. The scheme gives first time filmmakers an opportunity to showcase their filmic storytelling ability.
 
Metro Screen MOBILE UNIT
Our Mobile Unit travels to Western Sydney + regional NSW offering training programs + partnerships with community groups, training providers + production companies.
The growing interest in digital media production, film festivals, regional cinemas + travelling film exhibitions has already led to courses in Tamworth, Hunter Valley, Griffith + NSW North Coast.
