Production Grants allocates $60,000



Metro Screen Production Grants allocate a total of $60,000 annually in the form of equipment and facilities hire. Metro Screen invests in productions through Jump Start and Network Production Grants.

ELIGIBILITY
  • Innovation
    The production inspires or encourages independent, original and progressive content for film, TV and digital media production and exhibition.
  • Practitioner support 
    The production fosters the professional development of emerging and independent screen practitioners.
  • Access and Equity 
    The production provides a targeted opportunity for those generally excluded from mainstream media production to become actively involved in the process so promoting expertise in the use of video and digital media.
  • Community and Cultural Development 
    The production encourages communities to use screen media as a cultural development tool and supports community based screen culture practice.
JUMP START
Jump Start $45,000 annually
Metro Screen’s Jump Start Committee typically comprises representatives of the Metro Board, our Facilities Department and the independent production industry.

Applicants should be realistic about the amount of subsidy sought and note that the committee expects a cash contribution by all applicants unless extenuating financial circumstances exist.

Metro Screen plays a significant role in the Australian film industry by nurturing, and developing establishing filmmakers. Be My Brother Director Genevieve Clay, was produced through Metro Screen’s Jump Start funding grant and Dry Water: The making Of Director Gabriel Colomb, was produced through our regular Young Filmmaker school holiday workshops.

Genevieve’s film won over the crowd with its lead actors award winning performance [her lead Gerard O'Dwyer won ‘Best Male Actor’]. Gerard’s performance allowed the film’s powerful and heartfelt story to resonate through the massive crowd in Sydney’s domain, the Australia wide satellite venues and around the globe via Movie Extra’s live broadcast.
 
Be My Brother

Synopsis: This is how Richard a young man with Down Syndrome, negotiates his relationships with his family and the world at large, armed with nothing but a Dictaphone and a sense of humour.

NETWORK PRODUCTION GRANTS
Network Production Grants $15,000 annually
Awarded through our regular calendar of Metro Screen Network events.

Become a member of Metro Screen to be eligible $60 or $40 concession for 12 mths.

Previous successful Jump Start applicants have included:
  • Peter Humble’s Mizu was selected for screening at the Liquid Lens Festival in Brisbane at the Dendy Cinemas Brisbane.
  • Khoa Do’s critically acclaimed The Finished People nominated for two AFI awards.
  • Stuart Vauvert’s Hitch Cock screened in over fifteen international festivals.
